7 Ways and Tips to pass time while sitting at home without going crazy

With many parts of the world facing a lockdown, we feel that it is important for people to have ideas for things to do when they are at home. Working from home is all well and good, but there are also a lot of things you can do that will help you pass the time so you don’t get cabin fever!

So, we (team Takenaka) put our heads together and came up with some of our favorite ways to pass the time at home that will stop you from climbing the walls.

1. It is Puzzle Time

Puzzles are classic, and they represent a great way of keeping occupied and stimulating your brain at the same time as well. We recommend checking out Seltzer for their amazing selection of quirky and unusual puzzles. Pass the time by making the most of their amazing selection, and end up with a work of art. You can get a hold of some of these wonderful puzzles from their site

2. Start Working Out

Working out is one of the things that a lot of people have missed out on during this situation, so we thought that prioritizing this at home would be important. Also, spare time means you have no excuses. Luckily, you can plan and implement your own workout session from home these days. Utilizing workout apps is one of the best ways to do this, and these are two of our favorites:

  1. Nike Training Club - Nike offers free members registration, and you can benefit from this amazing app, packed full of all your home workout needs. Check out the link to find out more about this awesome workout app.

  2. Workout for Women: Fitness App - The comprehensive at-home workout guide for the driven woman looking to enhance her health and fitness. But there’s nothing to say guys can’t make use of this epicly wonderful app as well!

3. Read More

One of the best things you can do to pass the time when you’re stuck at home all day is to start reading more. There are so many amazing books out there, and each one is a journey and an adventure to somewhere different. As George R.R. Martin once said, “A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies…”

If you have a library membership you probably have access to many e-books that you can download and read without leaving the house. All you will need is to download the Adobe Digital Editions app, for free.

For those who simply must have the real deal (we hear you), here are two of our favorite online bookstores to order from:

Thriftbooks: American readers simply can’t go wrong with this one, and shipping costs are practically non-existent.

Bookdepository: Based in the UK and Australia, they offer free shipping everywhere.

4. Bing, Of-Course

Of course, being stuck at home all day is going to mean we can start binging all those shows that we haven’t had time to watch. There are a lot of great options here, (too many to list), but we would highly recommend our favorite ‘Terrace House’, which has a full 3 seasons to binge on Netflix
Be careful, it's addictive.

5. Start an Online Course

The beauty of the internet as it is today is such that you can enjoy and experience new things. Fresh learning experiences are open to you that would not otherwise be, and it is important to make the most of this. Take an online course and expand your horizons in the process; there are plenty of paid and free options to look at right now, and these are our absolute favorites:

Edx - This offers free courses from top universities around the world.
Coursera - Another freebie offering courses from leading global institutions.
Skillshare - A creative course focused on animation, design, writing, and film & TV. Free sign up and a two-month free trial to get you started.
Treehouse - The perfect choice for those who love all things coding.

6. Improve Your Culinary Skills

Improve the cooking skills you’ve never had time to master or brush up on your bento box recipes for when you will need to bring lunch to work again.

7. Improve Your Dog’s Life

Being cooped up is no fun for you, and it’s even less fun for your pet, so this is something you need to think about getting right. Our team’s pets love to use Kocho potty pads, which eliminates odors and absorbs liquid fast so your dog will never walk with wet paws in the house again.
